The Department

The Diagnostic Service Department of the Hellenic Pasteur Institute is considered to be a service of high reliability, capable of fulfilling the needs of both private and public organizations involved in primary and secondary health care.

The interest of the department is focused on the diagnosis of infectious diseases caused by bacteria, viruses or parasites. The methods used include serological tests of detection and/or isolation of pathogenic factors, as agglutination reaction, immunoenzyme techniques, immunofluorescence, western blot, cultures and techniques of molecular biology. Many of the methods used are result from our own research activities. The method of rapid detection of Herpes and the diagnosis of myasthenia gravis are two notable examples.

The Diagnostic Service Department offers also a number of services that cover special needs of the private sector, among them:

  1. Quality control of foods and waters for tourist resorts.
  2. Controls of anti-microbial action for disinfectant products.
  3. Determination of anti-microbial action for new products.
  4. Sterility control for industrial products.
  5. Quality and anti-microbial control of mobile waste units.
