Leica Thunder Imager live cell imaging system

THUNDER Imager 3D Live Cell is designed for imaging cell culture assays. It allows a clear view of details within an intact sample, in real time without out-of-focus blur. This performance advantage is achieved with Computational Clearing opto-digital method. THUNDER Imager helps to maintain optimal physiological conditions by minimizing photobleaching, providing high-performance imaging and high-throughput of data leading to better workflow efficiency and statistics. The technical characteristics of the system are:

  • Leica DMi8 inverted microscope
  • pE-400max MB LLG light fluorescence (400, 450, 545, 635 nm excitation)
  • Objectives: DRY: 5x, 10x, 20x, 40x, oil immersion: 63x
  • Leica K8 Camera for fluorescence imaging
  • Okolab environmental chamber with controlled temperature, humidity and CO2 concentration
  • Applications:
  • Imaging of fixed samples, 3D cell culture assays, stem cells, spheroids, organoids
  • Live cell imaging
  • Compatibility with multi-well carriers
  • Removal of out-of-focus blur with computational clearing

The Leica Thunder Imager live cell has been  acquired through National Recovery and Resilience Grant funding(MIS 5174647) and was installed in the HPI-BU in July 2025.
